Mini Lila Wool/Silk Layette Review

Mini Lila is a New York City based company started by two mothers who wanted to bring quality wool products to the states. Their layette line offers size newborn through 18 months, is made in Germany, and is crafted from a blend of organic wool and silk (70% / 30%).  Why use silk? Silk is temperature regulating like wool, and adds additional softness to the garment without taking away any of the benefits of wool. This makes it especially well suited for babies and toddlers with skin conditions.

I received the layette set in exchange for my full and honest review. All opinions are my own. This post may include some affiliate links for your convenience. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.

FIT:  The layettes have been designed to ‘grow’ with your baby. Since my babies tend to be larger and grow quickly I chose a size 3-6 months. My almost 9 pound newborn has worn the layette from her first days and is still getting use out of it at over 13lbs. The pants have a fold over design at the bottom so they were first worn folded over and now they are worn feet out with booties. I think she will probably outgrow the onesie before the pants as they are quite generous in length. The wide rib and elastic waist also makes it easy to fold over and adjust to the growing baby and will accommodate cloth diapers well. Some items such as the kimono onesie and bonnet tend to run small.

COMFORT: The Mini Lila layette is a light-weight wool and has been perfect for sleeping, by itself on warm fall days, and layered underneath other clothing for cooler weather. It is adaptable for year-round wear.

DURABILITY: I have used the layette set regularly for a couple months and I have not noticed any weakness or flaws in the fabric. It did get slightly pilly in areas but a simple shave brought it back to almost new condition. (This is the fabric shaver I use, although I have also heard really good things about this one.)

EASE OF CARE: Since wool requires very little washing unless soiled I have only hand washed if absolutely necessary, (see how to care for wool) and because it is lightweight it dries very quickly. This makes it very easy to quickly wear again. For more detailed washing instructions see Mini Lila’s website.

CONCLUSION: If you are looking for a minimalist newborn wardrobe piece this is a perfect addition. It is a classic lightweight, year-round, long-lasting baby layette. It can be purchased here.
